Established in April 2002, Shanghai Vegetable Processing and Export Industry Association (SVPE) is a cross-sector, trans-ownership and non-profit industry organization as legal person organized voluntarily by vegetable production, processing and distribution enterprises and institutions in Shanghai.

  SVPE currently has 77 members of various ownerships engaged in production, processing, trading, scientific research, education and means of production of fruits, vegetables, processed products, pesticides and fertilizers, as well as greenhouse and other horticultural products. The vegetable wholesale amount and export vegetable area of SVPE members account for 80% and 70% of the total in Shanghai respectively.

  SVPE is devoted to abiding by the Constitution, laws, regulations and policies of the state, complying with the social morality, assisting the government in industry administration, playing a coordination, consulting and service role in the industry, protecting the legal rights and interests of the members and the industry, and promoting the healthy development of fruit and vegetable industry. Its main functions include providing consulting, training and other services; protecting the legal rights and interests of the members; coordinating and regulating the behaviors of the industry; and providing suggestions and advices on industry policies, regulations and planning for the government.

  The Briefings, a monthly published by SVPE, provides timely information to the members about vegetable production, processing and distribution in China and international markets. SVPE also offers information to the public via its website, organizes training courses and seminars related to the industry for the members from time to time, and gives legal aid to the members.
