Established in Dec. 2002, Shanghai Biopharmaceutics Industry Association (SBIA) is a cross-sector, trans-ownership and non-profit industry organization as legal person organized voluntarily by bio-pharmaceutical enterprises and institutions in Shanghai. SBIA currently has 120 members of various ownerships, with business scope covering biological medicine, diagnostic reagent, biological healthcare product, biochip, biological environment protection, bio-agriculture and sales amount accounting for over 80% of the total of the industry. SBIA has a Biological Product Committee, and “expert pool” composed of more than 100 biotech experts in various fields.

  SBIA’s mission is to, in accordance with the laws, regulations, biotech industry development guidelines and policies, strengthen the connection between the members and government/society, report the expectations and demands of the members, conduct industry management upon the authorization and assignment of the government, guide the enterprises to manage their operations, ensure fair play within the industry, protect the legal rights and interests of the members and guarantee the market order.

  SBIA publishes Biotech Industry (monthly), and has a website. It has published Collection of Bio-Pharmaceutical Policies and Regulations, and issued Self-discipline Statement of the industry. SBIA also organizes various seminars, report meetings, training courses from time to time, and holds “China (Shanghai) International Bio-Pharmaceutical Seminar” and “Biotech and Pharmaceutical Exhibition” annually. It has signed cooperation agreement with Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center and set up a special department to handle intellectual property consulting, patent agency and result transformation.
