Established on December 26, 1985, Shanghai Construction Trade Association (SCTA), the former Shanghai Building Trade United Associations, was renamed to current name at the First Session of the Fifth Member Conference held on April 11, 2003, according to the requirements of trade association requirements of Shanghai.

  SCTA is a cross-sector, trans-ownership and non-profit industry organization as legal person organized voluntarily by construction enterprises and institutions in Shanghai. As of the end of April 2006, SCTA had 584 members of various ownerships (including 229 non-local enterprises). The enterprise members of SCTA are mainly large and medium-sized backbone enterprises holding the qualification above Class B and engaged in building construction, civil engineering, installation and decoration. They have obvious advantages and take leading positions in the industry, sharing 85% of the production value of Shanghai construction and installation market.

  SCTA has the Construction Quality and Safety Committee and the SMW Process Committee. With the work guidelines of “serving the members’ needs”, SCTA always focuses on the protection of the rights and interest of the members, reports the expectations and demands of the enterprises to the governmental departments on behalf on the industry, is actively involved in the government decision-making process concerning the interests of the industry and enterprises, conducts investigations on infringement of the legal rights and interests of the enterprise, and provides free law consulting to the members through its Corporate Law Workgroup.

  Authorized by Shanghai Construction Commission, SCTA is responsible for organizing trainings for the project managers and technicians of the construction enterprises in Shanghai, and organizing contest for “Magnolia” Construction Project Award and the appraisal of Excellent Project Managers. With the support of Shanghai Construction Administration Office, SCTA organizes and carries out ranking of comprehensive strength among Shanghai construction enterprises.

  To meet the needs of the members, SCTA regularly makes interaction with the members, organizes seminars, experience exchange activities and visits. It also publishes Shanghai Construction Information and distributes to members free of charge.
